At Home Ab Exercises That Work

StabilityIf you want to get a rock hard six pack, it is imperative that you perform the correct ab exercises.  Many people spend countless hours performing never ending sit-up routines only to be disappointed by their lack of results.  That’s not you though; not anymore.  After reading this article, you will know how to choose the exercises that will deliver you the results you want and keep you from spending all of your free time in the gym.

The secret to choosing the right ab exercises is to focus on performing movements that will reduce your stability during the exercise.  When your body has to work to maintain stability, it naturally incorporates the use of all your abdominal muscles and gives you a better abdominal workout than the traditional sit-up routine or other ab exercises where your body is relatively stable.

The way you create instability for your ab exercises is to either perform the exercises while balancing on one leg or to incorporate the use of an exercise ball, stability ball or BOSU ball.  The main idea here is just to throw off your body’s natural stability and make your abs work harder.  The great thing about this technique is that you can do most of it as an in home workout program.  As long as you have an exercise ball and some dumbbells, you’re all set.  In fact, with a little creativity, you can do some of these ab exercises without either of these.

Okay, enough talk.  Here are some examples:

Six Pack Ab Exercises with Stability Multiplier

  • One Legged Squats
  • Bent Over Dumbbell Rows (standing on one leg)
  • One Arm Shoulder Press (on one leg to make it more intense)
  • Walking Across A Balance Beam (optional dumbbell in one hand)
  • Anything Performed On An Exercise Ball

These are just some examples to get your mind working.  There are many ab exercises that you can come up with if you keep the stability principle in mind.  You will find that many exercises, which you would not normally consider to be ab exercises, will become ab exercises when you throw in a little instability.  So, be creative and make it fun for yourself.  If you come up with some creative ideas, leave a comment below and share it with everyone else.
