I decided to review the Iron Gym for a couple of reasons.  First of all, I use it and love it.  Secondly, it is inexpensive and can be used with several six pack and fat loss programs.  I used it when I was doing P90X.  If you have door frames in your house, this is a must have.  It’s not perfect, but for the price it comes pretty close.

Utility

The Iron Gym is a fairly handy tool.  It can be effectively used for a variety of exercises which I will lump into four categories: pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups and dips.  There are many variations of these exercises which you can also do with the Iron Gym.  I think it works reasonably well for all of them.

Limitations

There are a few limitations that you should be aware of before you buy an Iron Gym.  First of all, you have to have door frames.  Sounds like a no brainer, but this was an issue for me because I don’t have a door frame in the spot I would like to use the Iron Gym.  It’s not a big deal though because most doorways have frames.  The second limitation is the size of your door frames.  They need to be between 24″ and 32″ wide.  These are fairly standard door sizes, s0 this shouldn’t be a problem for most people.  The last limitation is your body weight.  The Iron Gym is not recommended for anyone weighing over 300 lbs.

Quality

I found the Iron Gym to be of excellent quality.  At no time have I felt like it was going to bend under my weight or fall apart.  It is sturdy and has thus far held up perfectly.  The metal bars are very light weight and also very strong.

Assembly

There is some assembly required with the Iron Gym.  Don’t worry though, it is about as easy as you can get.  There are a total of six screws and five pieces.  You should be able to put it together in less than five minutes.  It comes with all the tools you will need and a picture to illustrate how to assemble it.  You shouldn’t run in to any problems here.

Price

As home exercise equipment goes, the Iron Gym is really inexpensive.  It only costs $29.99 and I think it is well worth the price.  Considering how much you can do with it and how well it holds up, it is a great deal.

Negatives

There are a few things that I don’t like about the Iron Gym.  It’s not quite as wide as I would like.  There isn’t really anything that can be done about that though.  It can’t be wider than a door frame so it’s not really a limitation of the Iron Gym per se.  You can still do some fairly wide gripped pull-ups, just not quite as wide as I would like.  If your wing span is smaller than mine than this probably won’t be an issue for you.

When I use the Iron Gym to do dips, I can get a good burn but I don’t get as good of a range of motion as I would like.  I like to take my dips to 90 degrees but can’t with the Iron Gym because my butt hits the ground before I get to that point.  This could be overcome by putting the Iron Gym on top of something.

The Iron Gym is not adjustable so you are limited in the variety of push-ups you can do with it.  You can do a standard width push-up, but you won’t be able to do any narrow or wide variations.  This is not a huge deal, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Summary

All-in-all, this is a very good product.  I find it very useful and you can’t beat the price.  If you want to be able to get a decent upper body workout at home then this is a must have.  If you don’t already own one, you can get one on the Iron Gym website.

If you own an Iron Gym and have any comments or suggestions that you would like to share, please leave a comment.
