Ben - Sounds like you're making some good progress. As you've already noticed, working out your abs will make them stronger but it will not get rid of any excess belly fat. Since it is impossible to target fat in a particular area, you need to work on a general fat loss program if you want your abs to really show. The best way to burn fat is to build muscle and the best way to build muscle is to concentrate on full-body, multi-joint, strength training exercises. For a great guide on exactly how to do this, check out The Truth About Six Pack Abs.

I have been working on getting my 6-pack back for about 5 months now. I am doing sit-ups, and they seem to help (along with a slightly better diet and more aerobic exercise). I'm even able to do more and more sit-ups per session (I started at about 40, now I easily do 3 sets of 25). But the layer of jiggle over my abs is still present.

Any tips?
