<p>I saw this book on Amazon.com a few months ago and immediately thought it looked interesting, so I decided to read it. It was a quick and easy read and I liked it a lot so I decided I would review it for you. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to understand what causes us to get fat and how to overcome it.</p>
<h3>Meet The Author: Jackie Warner</h3>
<p>I can&#8217;t really put one specific label on Jackie Warner as she is/does a lot of things. As it relates to this book, the most important thing to know is that she is a fitness expert. She is also a gym owner, has her own television show, and is an all around entrepreneur. Beyond writing books, she has also made a few <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002L6HDAQ?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=roihouse-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B002L6HDAQ" target="_blank">exercise videos</a>.</p>
<h3>What&#8217;s In The Book?</h3>
<p>The book is divided into four parts:</p>
<p><strong>Part 1 &#8211; This Is Why You&#8217;re Fat</strong></p>
<p>In this section, Jackie talks about all the things that contribute to making you fat. She talks a lot about sugar and the way it effects various chemical processes in the body. She also talks about different organs in the body and how they play a part in making you fat or skinny.</p>
<p><strong>Part 2 &#8211; This Is How You Eat To Get Hot And Healthy</strong></p>
<p>In this section, you will learn all about Jackie&#8217;s approach to eating healthy. Her approach is different than most other diets. In fact, I&#8217;m not even sure you would call it a diet. She calls it a food plan.</p>
<p>One interesting part of this section is Jackie Warner&#8217;s 2-Week Jump Start. During the first two weeks of her program, all you worry about is making sure you are eating certain foods. You don&#8217;t have to stop eating anything you are currently eating or control yourself in any other way. All you have to do it is add in the foods on her list if you aren&#8217;t already eating them. It&#8217;s kind of like the opposite of a &#8220;diet.&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>Part 3 &#8211; This Is How You Exercise To Get Hot And Healthy</strong></p>
<p>Here is where you will learn all about the Jackie Warner exercise program. Just like the previous section, this section starts with a two week jump start. All you do during these two weeks is a 20 minute cardio routine five days a week. She even gives you six different routines to choose from so there is something for everyone.</p>
<p>After the two week intro, she will take you through her Power Circuits. This is Jackie Warner&#8217;s personal approach to circuit training. The best way to burn fat is to build muscle and this is the approach that Jackie takes. She focuses on strength training, but all of the exercises use only body weight or a small dumbbell.</p>
<p><strong>Part 4 &#8211; This Is How You Stay Hot And Healthy</strong></p>
<p>In this last section, Jackie focuses on getting your mind right. You may not believe it, but so much of physical fitness is in the mind. If you can&#8217;t get your mind right, you will never get the results you want. Jackie will take you through getting in the right mindset to stay thin for the rest of you life.</p>
<p>After Part 4, there are several appendices with some very useful resources. She includes several meal plans and recipes, a sample food journal, and a sample training log.</p>

<h3>Why I Like This Book</h3>
<p>There are several reasons why I think this is a great book. First of all, it is in line with my exercise and weight loss philosophy, so I know that the things she is saying are correct. Secondly, I like her writing style. As I said earlier, it is an easy read. I also like the layout of the book. The way Jackie takes you through it is very logical. The four parts of the book do a great job of taking you from beginning to end. She tells you why you&#8217;re fat, how to get skinny, and then how to stay skinny. It feels very complete.</p>
<p>Some other great things about this book are the meal plans and exercise routines. Jackie gives you great examples of what to eat and even gives you recipes you can follow. For the exercises, each one is illustrated by Jackie making it really easy to follow.</p>
<p>Last of all, the best thing about this book is Jackie&#8217;s program. Of all the weight loss programs out there, this one is really easy to follow. The meal plan isn&#8217;t too difficult and the exercises are rather simple. All you have to do is read it and do what it says.</p>
<h3>Why I Don&#8217;t Like This Book</h3>
<p>I don&#8217;t have many negative things to say about his book, however I will point out a couple things. First of all, this book was written by a woman for women. Throughout the book, Jackie makes it obvious that this book is for women by discussing things that are specific to the female body. This isn&#8217;t necessarily a negative (especially if you are a woman) but it does mean that certain parts of the book just won&#8217;t pertain to men. That being said, there is nothing about Jackie&#8217;s plan that doesn&#8217;t apply equally to men and women. I still recommend this book for men. They just need to gloss over the parts where she talks about breasts or getting a tone butt and legs so you will be attractive to men.</p>
<p>The only other complaint I have is with the Power Circuit routines. The routines are good, but there were a couple of things that weren&#8217;t immediately obvious to me when I read them. I had to take a minute to make sure I really understood how to complete the circuits. It wasn&#8217;t a big deal, but I thought the explanation could have been a little clearer.</p>
<h3>Why You Should Own This Book</h3>
<p>If you have struggled to lose weight, this book is for you. Jackie takes a different approach to weight loss because she knows how difficult it can be to stick with a diet and exercise routine. Her emphasis is on making her plan easy to follow and easy to stick with.</p>
<p>If you eat like most people eat, then this book is for you. So many of the things we are used to eating are responsible for making us fat. Even some of the foods that you think are healthy are actually contributing to making you fat. This book will educate you on exactly how you should be eating to get and stay thin forever.</p>
<p>If you have been doing countless hours of cardio with little to no results, this book is for you. Traditional cardio is not the answer to weight loss. You need to change the way you exercise to maximize your fat burning potential and this book will teach you how to do it.</p>
<h3>To Sum It Up</h3>
<p><em>This Is Why You&#8217;re Fat</em> by Jackie Warner is a great book for anyone who wants to lose weight and keep it off forever. Everything you need is contained within this book. If you are ready to make a positive change in your life then you should definitely check out this book.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I know that most of my posts about how to get six pack abs involve losing fat, but some of you may not need to lose any fat. Maybe you have the opposite problem, you are too skinny and can&#8217;t build muscle. A lot of guys have this problem and it can be very frustrating.</p>
<p>Part of the reason that it is so difficult to build muscle is that there is so much misinformation circulating around the fitness world. When you look through the muscle magazines or browse the internet, all you see are these mammoth dudes whose mother&#8217;s probably put steroids in their bottles from the time they were newborns. All of the advice in these magazines is for these huge guys and has little relevance to you.</p>
<p>What you need is advice from a formerly skinny guy who has unlocked the secrets to packing on solid muscle mass. The expert in this field is Vince DelMonte. He is a former stick-thin distance runner who couldn&#8217;t gain muscle to save his life. He finally met a guy whom he calls the &#8220;Skinny Guy Savior&#8221; who taught him the right way to build muscle. Since then, Vince has transformed his body and now shares his knowledge with other skinny guys who are struggling to build muscle. A little education can go a long way in helping you to not waste time on exercises that won&#8217;t get you to your goal. If you&#8217;ve never studied anatomy or read about the makeup of the abdominal muscles, you may be surprised to learn what goes in to developing <a href="http://www.theabman.com/2010/04/13/the-truth-about-six-pack-abs-package">washboard abs</a>.</p>
<h3>The Different Abdominal Muscles And Their Functions</h3>
<p>There are four main muscles that make up your abdominal muscles.</p>
<ul>
<li>Rectus Abdominis</li>
<li>Transversus Abdominis</li>
<li>Internal Obliques</li>
<li>External Obliques</li>
</ul>
<p>The rectus abdominis is the muscle that runs down the middle of the abdomen. It is the muscle that gives you the six pack abs look. Even though it looks like eight individual muscles, it is actually one muscle. The rectus abdominis is responsible for drawing the ribs and the pelvis closer together.</p>
<p>The transversus abdominis runs across your middle section much like a weight belt. This muscle holds your abdomen in. If you want a flat stomach, this is the muscle that will do the trick.</p>
<p>The internal and external obliques work together. Their main function is to rotate the torso and stabilize the abdomen.</p>
<h3>Getting To Know Your Abdominal Muscles</h3>
<p>Talking about these muscles is helpful, but seeing them really brings it home. Check out the video below to see exactly where these muscles are and what they look like. The video is a little dry with some big anatomical words in it, but I think it is worth watching so you can better understand your abdominal muscles. If you want to build great six pack abs, you need to know which muscles to work on. Just ignore all the big words and focus on learning the location and function of the rectus abdominis, transversus abdominis, internal obliques, and external obliques.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As long as you are eating the right kinds of fat, &#8220;eating fat does not make you fat.&#8221; Certified Nutrition Specialist <a href="http://www.theabman.com/2010/04/15/who-is-mike-geary">Mike Geary</a> states this emphatically in his <em><a href="http://www.theabman.com/details.php?p=taa&amp;id=taaEatingFat" target="_blank">The Truth About Six Pack Abs</a></em> program. One of the things that Mike does really well in this program is explain how to eat to stay lean and the reasons why his approach works. Knowing what kinds of fats to eat is just one part of the formula and it&#8217;s the part we are going to focus on here.</p>
<p>For a variety of reasons, you are afraid of fat. You&#8217;ve been taught to think and feel this way. You&#8217;ve been taught that eating fat will give you high cholesterol and heart disease. You&#8217;ve been taught that eating fat will make your body fat.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s logical. It makes sense. Why shouldn&#8217;t you think this way? If you put fat in your body then you&#8217;re going to get fat, right?</p>
<p>The truth is your body actually needs fat. In fact, approximately 20 &#8211; 40% of your total caloric intake should come from healthy fats. That&#8217;s why it occurs naturally in almost everything we eat.</p>
<h3>Healthy Fat? What&#8217;s That?</h3>
<p>You&#8217;ve probably heard different &#8220;experts&#8221; talking about polyunsaturated, monounsaturated, saturated, and trans fats and which ones to eat and which ones to avoid. Unfortunately, the advice you get varies from one expert to the next and it&#8217;s all too much to remember. It makes trying to shop for healthy food extremely difficult and confusing.</p>
<p>Fortunately, you don&#8217;t really need to worry about that. The answer to which fats are healthy and which fats are not is really quite simple. It&#8217;s actually not even so much a matter of what kinds of fat as it is the history of the fat.</p>
<p>Confused? Let me explain.</p>
<p>Generally speaking, any fat that occurs naturally and is consumed in is original and natural state is a healthy fat. On the other hand, fats that have been through any sort of processing (meaning humans have messed with it) are generally unhealthy.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s a pretty clear and simple rule and it makes food selection much simpler. To say it even more simply:</p>
<p><strong>Natural Fat = Good; Processed Fat = Bad</strong></p>
<p>Now that you&#8217;ve got the rule down, let&#8217;s look at some examples. Everything you eat should come from either a plant or an animal, so we&#8217;ll look at examples from those two categories.</p>
<h3>Animal Fats &#8211; The Good And The Bad</h3>
<p>For the most part, if you&#8217;re eating something from an animal then it is probably either meat or some form of dairy product, so let&#8217;s focus our attention there.</p>
<p>Unless you hunt and fish for all your meat, the meat you consume was raised in one of two ways:</p>
<ol>
<li>Fed by humans with some combination of synthetic and natural food sources</li>
<li>In a natural environment on completely natural food sources</li>
</ol>
<p>Can you guess which one is healthier for you? The correct answer is of course number two.</p>
<p>In many mass production farms that raise animals for consumption, the animals are not fed their natural diet. Instead, they are given antibiotics, hormones, and other things that are intended to make the farms production more efficient and cost effective. Unfortunately, these things have a trickle down effect on you.</p>
<p>Your other option is to eat meats that come from animals that were raised in their natural environment and allowed to eat their natural diet. It is more expensive and less efficient to raise animals this way, but the end result is much better for you.</p>
<p>The same thing goes for dairy products, they either come from animals on a natural diet or from animals on a synthetic diet. Again, the natural diet produces the healthiest food for you. On top of that, most dairy products go through a few processes that make them less healthy for you (i.e. pasteurization, homogenization). Milk fat is actually quite good for you if you can find milk that hasn&#8217;t been processed.</p>
<h3>Plant Fats &#8211; The Good And The Bad</h3>
<p>Just like animal based food products, you have two options when it comes to plant based food products:</p>
<ol>
<li>Chemically altered and/or heavily processed</li>
<li>Naturally occurring with little to no processing</li>
</ol>
<p>As before, number two is the better choice.</p>
<p>When it comes to plant based foods, most of the fat is in nuts and oils. These fats can actually be quite good for you if they are not heavily processed.</p>
<p>What you want to look for here is the words &#8220;organic&#8221; or &#8220;natural.&#8221; For example, when you buy your peanut butter, look for a bottle that says it is organic. You should be able to notice a difference in the ingredients list of the organic peanut butter versus the regular peanut butter.</p>
<p>In fact, the ingredients list can be a good guide for you when selecting plant based foods. If the ingredients list contains things that you don&#8217;t immediately recognize as coming from a farm or garden, then it&#8217;s probably not the best choice for you.</p>
<h3>Some Sources Of Good Fats</h3>
<p>Here are a few examples of foods that will give your body the healthy fats it needs:</p>
<ul>
<li>Nuts</li>
<li>Seeds</li>
<li>Avocados</li>
<li>Organic Peanut Butter</li>
<li>Fish</li>
</ul>
<p>Remember that 20 &#8211; 40% of your calories should come from good fats. This list is just an example. There are many other good sources of healthy fat. Just stick to the rule I mentioned above and you should be fine.</p>

I&#8217;m not talking about losing a few pounds and then gaining back twice as much when you go off the diet. I&#8217;m talking about real, sustained, healthy weight loss. So, answer honestly and let&#8217;s see those hands.</p>
<p>Why aren&#8217;t you raising your hand? I thought fad diets were so popular because they work so well. Shouldn&#8217;t we all be raising our hands right now?</p>
<p>Okay, so you get the point. I&#8217;m not a big fan of fad diets. I don&#8217;t like them because they don&#8217;t work. These diets are surrounded by lots of hype and plenty of testimonials, but the reality is that they don&#8217;t produce sustainable and healthy weight loss. More often than not, in the long run a fad diet will leave you the same or worse off than before you started the diet.</p>
<p>So, why don&#8217;t these diets work? I&#8217;ll give you the long answer in a minute, but Certified Nutrition Specialist <a href="http://www.theabman.com/2010/04/15/who-is-mike-geary">Mike Geary</a> summed it up perfectly in his book <em><a href="http://www.theabman.com/details.php?p=taa&amp;id=taaFadDiets" target="_blank">The Truth About Six Pack Abs</a></em>. Simply put&#8230;</p>
<blockquote><p>The problem with most fad diets is that they typically limit consumption of a certain macronutrient (protein, carbs, or fat) or food group, and therefore tend to fight against what your body needs to function most efficiently.</p></blockquote>
<p>So what&#8217;s wrong with limiting certain foods in your diet? You&#8217;ve been taught that fats and carbs are bad for you. You&#8217;ve been taught that they are the secret evil ingredients that make you fat, and if you can just make yourself completely avoid them then your excess fat will magically melt away never to return again.</p>
<p>Well, the truth is quite the opposite. Your body needs fat and your body needs carbohydrates. If you do not get enough of them, certain bodily processes (the ones that naturally fight fat storage and promote fat burning) start to shut down. Since most popular diets focus on limiting or completely avoiding fats and carbs, lets look at some of the negative impacts of reducing fats and carbs in your diet.</p>
<h3>Negative Impacts Of Limiting Carbs In Your Diet</h3>

<li>Loss of lean muscle</li>
<li>A lower Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)</li>
<li>Reduced muscle glycogen levels</li>
<li>Less energy</li>
<li>Muscles start to look flat or deflated</li>
<li>Reduced ability to recover quickly from workouts</li>

<h3>Negative Impacts Of Limiting Fat In Your Diet</h3>
<ul>
<li>Hormonal imbalances</li>
<li>Increased hunger and cravings</li>
<li>Your body craves carbohydrates to compensate for reduction in fat</li>
<li>Reduced performance of fat burning metabolic processes</li>
<li>Reduced ability to perform numerous essential bodily processes and functions</li>
</ul>
<p>Okay, so now you&#8217;re confused. On the one hand, you have been told not to eat fats and carbs. On the other hand, I&#8217;m telling you that bad things will happen if you don&#8217;t eat fats and carbs. So, which is it?</p>
<p>As with many things in life, the answer is moderation. More specifically, moderation and knowledge. You shouldn&#8217;t eat too many fats and carbs, and you shouldn&#8217;t avoid them completely. On top of that, it is also essential to eat the right kinds of fats and carbs.</p>
<p>Learning how to eat properly can be difficult, but it is an essential part of living a happy and healthy life. If you want to lose your excess body fat the right way and keep it off forever, I suggest learning about and understanding the roles that fats, carbs and the other main components of your diet play in storing or burning body fat.</p>

It has been featured on several TV shows and in several fitness magazines lately. If you haven&#8217;t heard of it, it&#8217;s basically a dumbbell that you shake. As you shake the dumbbell, the weights on either end slide up and down about an inch or so.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ll admit it, you&#8217;ll look goofy shaking the weight back and forth (check out these videos to see what I mean: <a href="http://www.theabman.com/details.php?p=shakeweightmen" target="_blank">for men</a>, <a href="http://www.theabman.com/details.php?p=shakeweightwomen" target="_blank">for women</a>), but if it works then who cares what it looks like. Supposedly, these things are supposed to be 7 times more effective than a regular dumbbell. They say that 6 minutes with the Shake Weight is like 42 minutes with a regular dumbbell.</p>
<p>As soon as I saw the Shake Weight, my thoughts immediately turned to <a href="http://www.theabman.com/details.php?p=p90x" target="_blank">P90X</a>. Dumbbells are a major part of P90X, so I naturally thought about using the Shake Weight for the <a href="http://www.theabman.com/2009/11/02/p90x-workout-schedule">P90X workouts</a>. Now that would be an intense workout. If you had one Shake Weight, you could use it for a lot of the P90X exercises, but if you had two of them you could really go crazy.</p>
<p>I just recently heard about the Shake Weight, so I don&#8217;t own one yet; but I plan on getting one soon. Once I get mine and try it out, I&#8217;ll write up a full review. <h3>The Mike Geary Approach</h3>
<p>Mike Geary&#8217;s workout philosophy is pretty simple. The best way to to lose weight and get in shape is to focus on strength training. Here are a few points of Mike&#8217;s workout approach:</p>
<ul>
<li>Use free weights instead of machines</li>
<li>Focus on multi-joint exercises</li>
<li>Intensity is more important than duration</li>
<li>Weight training is more important than cardio</li>
<li>If you do cardio, stick with high intensity and short durations (i.e. wind sprints)</li>
<li>Ab specific training should come at the end of your workout and only take up about 5 &#8211; 8 minutes</li>
</ul>
<h3>Workout Frequency and Duration</h3>
<p>Many people believe that you need to workout for several hours every day if you want to get in great shape. Fortunately, that isn&#8217;t the case and it&#8217;s not what Mike Geary recommends in <em>The Truth About Six Pack Abs</em>.</p>
<p>If you workout too much, you will most likely be over training and you won&#8217;t get as much benefit from all your hard work as you otherwise would get. For most people, a 45 &#8211; 60 minute workout 3 &#8211; 4 times a week will be about right. Since we are all different, experiment to find out what works best for you.</p>
<h3>Mike Geary Workouts</h3>
<p>It would be dishonest of me to divulge the specifics of Mike Geary&#8217;s workouts. You&#8217;ll have to get your own copy of <em><a href="http://www.theabman.com/details.php?p=taa&amp;id=taaMIkeGearyWorkouts" target="_blank">The Truth About Six Pack Abs</a></em> program if you want all of the details, but I can give you a general idea of what to expect.</p>
<p>There are several different workouts in the program that are for different fitness levels. You start with what is appropriate for your current fitness level and then work your way up. Each workout is done for 4 &#8211; 6 weeks and then you either move on to the next level or change some variable(s) and stay at the same level.</p>
<p>Each workout has an A and B version and you will alternate between them. For example, if you workout on Mon/Wed/Fri, during the first week you will do A on Monday, B on Wednesday, and A on Friday. The next week you will switch it and do B/A/B.</p>
<p>You start each of Mike Geary&#8217;s workouts with a warm up. After the warm up you go in to the A or B portion which consist of multi-joint free weight exercises (all of the exercises are explained and demonstrated in his program). After the weight training portion, you finish up with some ab specific exercises and some stretching.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you are new to working out or if you are just starting up again after a long break, then you probably know what I&#8217;m talking about. You start working out and quickly find that you just don&#8217;t have the energy to do the exercises you know you need to do. Or worse, you don&#8217;t even have enough energy to get started.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t worry, this is completely normal. It will take some time for your body to get used to the exercises you are doing, especially if you&#8217;ve never done any consistent exercising before. Over time, your body will adapt and you will find that you have plenty of energy to finish your exercise routine.</p>
<h3>Why Does This Happen?</h3>
<p>Think of it like inertia. Have you ever tried to push something really heavy (like a car for example)? As you start to push on the back of the car, it feels heavy and it doesn&#8217;t want to move. As you continue to push, it starts to move ever so slightly. With less and less effort, the car starts to roll faster and faster. Before long, you are barely pushing at all and you have to run just to keep up with the car.</p>
<p>Your body is just like this car. It takes a lot of effort and energy to break through the inertia of your sedentary life style. If you stick with it though, soon enough you will start to build up some momentum and exercising will begin to feel natural. You may still have some low energy days here and there, but for the most part you will find that you have lots more energy than you had before.</p>
<h3>What Should You Do About It?</h3>
<p>This is all well and fine, but what are you supposed to do until you get to the point that momentum is carrying you along? Telling you to buckle down and stick with it until that day arrives isn&#8217;t a whole lot of help, so here are a few things you can do to help along the way:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Get Enough Sleep</strong> &#8211; Make sure you get plenty of rest at night. Everyone is a little different, but most people need about 8 hours of sleep per night to function well. If you are exercising hard then you need your sleep even more than you would otherwise. It&#8217;s easy to ignore this tip, but it&#8217;s important so that&#8217;s why it&#8217;s at the top of the list.</li>
<li><strong>Drink Water</strong> &#8211; Make sure you stay hydrated during your workouts. If you start to get dehydrated then you can start to feel weak and lose your energy. Don&#8217;t overdo it though. Too much water is just as bad (or worse) as not enough.</li>
<li><strong>Start Slow And Build</strong> &#8211; If you&#8217;re just beginning, you don&#8217;t need to be working out like the guy who&#8217;s been going to the gym everyday for the last 12 years. Start with what you can handle and then push yourself a little harder each week. Your body will adjust easier to small incremental changes than it will to one large change.</li>
<li><strong>Workout In The Morning</strong> &#8211; Before you write me off, give it a try. If you are not used to getting up early, it may take a little while to get used to it but you will feel the difference once your body adjusts to it. Your body has much more energy after a full night of sleep than it will after a long hard day of work. It takes a few minutes to rub the sleep out of your eyes, but getting up early to exercise is a great way to start your day.</li>
</ul>
